Pellston Education Foundation Awards Classroom Grants
Pellston Education Foundation awarded its first round of teacher classroom grants in the spring of 2023. The foundation matched the gift of a donor who earmarked her donation to directly support classrooms. In all, just more than $2,000 was distributed among three different classrooms.
The grants awarded supported higher-level reading, sensory resources, and take-home book kits.
One recipient, first grade teacher Karen Welch, said:
“Thank you for approving the grant for the School-to-Home Reading Tote program. This collaboration addresses the need and importance of getting kids reading at home. We are anxiously awaiting our new books! Your support in early literacy will help develop a love of reading at an early age that will help students with their education later in life. I look forward to the first graders and their families enjoying these books for many years to come!”
Another grant recipient was Mrs. Smith's 4th grade class received a grant to buy books for their above-level reading materials to their self-directed reading library to fulfill the needs of the class's more advanced learners. (The book purchases came from Scholastic.) The class is pictured saying ‘Thank You.’
The foundation anticipates regular grant cycles to be available on an annual basis for all Pellston Public School educational programs.
