Scholarships
Donations to the Pellston Education Foundation can be directed to support any of the following scholarship funds:
General Fund
From this fund the PEF provides up to two $2,500 scholarships to exemplary, well-rounded graduates in the senior class at Pellston High. Students must attend Pellston Schools for at least 1 year in addition to their senior year. This fund also supports grants to the school to support programs that enrich the learning of Pellston students in all grades. General operational costs of the foundation also come from this fund.
Blake Anthony Wagenschutz Trade Scholarship
Blake Wagenschutz Memorial Scholarship was established by the Wagenschutz family in loving memory of their son, Blake Wagenschutz. Blake, a Pellston High School graduate, passed away on April 10, 2021 following a motorcycle accident just shy of his 28th birthday. He enjoyed working with Roger Armantrout in the Pellston construction trades program. He also helped build Habitat for Humanity homes in the area and his love of the trades blossomed in his career. Two $1000 scholarships available for Trade school or entering the workforce.
Calvin and Thelma Gardner Ball Family Scholarship
Established by Don Ball and Nancy Higley to honor Thelma Gardner-Ball and Calvin Ball who are both Pellston graduates. Calvin had a long career as a NASA engineer and Thelma had a successful career as a registered nurse. They both valued advanced education and were supported by the Pellston community which enabled them to pursue their goals. We wish to carry on this tradition through the establishment of this scholarship fund. One scholarship for $7,500 and one trades-focused scholarship for $2,500.
Crystal Jutson Memorial Scholarship
Established by the Jutson family in memory of Pellston graduate Crystal Jutson, this scholarship provides an annual scholarship to a student who excels in Career Tech Education Programs. Two $750 trade scholarships are available.
Edward L. and Mary J. Cadwell Educational Opportunity Scholarship
The Edward L. and Mary J. Cadwell Educational Opportunity Scholarship was established to provide economic assistance to graduates who wish to pursue secondary-education or trade program. Mr. Cadwell, his mother and two sons are all proud graduates of Pellston High School. $1000 scholarship, needs-based.
John (Dean) McLarty Family Scholarship Award
The John D. McLarty Family Scholarship was established in honor of the McLarty family. Mr. McLarty was raised on the family farm in Levering; he graduated from Pellston High School in 1951 going on to attend what is now known as Lake Superior State University. He spent his career in law enforcement. This scholarship was created in honor of his family to support seniors wishing to pursue a college education. $1000 scholarship, needs-based.
Lucille M. Johnson Scholarship Award
The Lucille M. Johnson Scholarship was established by Mr. Charles (Ed) Johnson, husband of Lucille to support students pursing an education in music or music curriculum. $500 scholarship, needs-based.
Pellston Alumni Scholarship Fund
This long-standing scholarship fund is now in the care of the Pellston Education Foundation. Scholarships support graduating students and alumni who face financial challenges as they advance to the next stage of their lives. Two $500 scholarships. Students must attend Pellston Schools for all 4 years of high school, needs-based.
Richard & Lottie Hayes Scholarship Award
The Richard & Lottie Hayes Scholarship Award was established as a tribute and memorial to a couple who valued education and encouraged their own eight children to attend college (6 went to college and 4 served in the military during World War II). $1000 scholarship, needs-based; academic performance; extracurriculars; character; church membership; career goals.
George Hayes Scholarship
The family of George Hayes provided this scholarship in his memory. George lived his entire life and worked in the family’s well-drilling business. He never went to college, but the vocational skills he learned on the job served him well and helped others along the way. This scholarship is intended to help young men and women learn valuable career tech ed and vocational skills to start their life-long journey in the trades. $500 scholarship.
